Learning with Ilze Be has been a priceless experience. The learning provided goes beyond flash cards of memorization of vocabulary. This course is about the structure of a sentence, no different than children learn their language skills in school. It teaches how to construct a sentence properly, with the correct case endings to words.  You will be listening to Latvian, spoken by a native, and understanding the context without studying vocabulary, but instead "how" to use sentence structure skills.  Ilze is a patient and knowledgeable teacher.  My favorite part of the entire course, the "quotes" at the beginning of each chapter.

I enjoyed the course Latvian 4 English Speakers from Ilze Be, and found it to be very useful in learning the basics of the Latvian language.  Not just memorization of words and phrases, it focused on the rules around the various forms of the words, and how and when to use them in sentences. Latvian has a very different structure then English, and that helped me a lot in understanding those differences.

This course has been an amazing opportunity, thank you! I know I still have a few hours of work left to do, but what I have done has been amazing! I think I can now say that I understand how the language works, and knowing where it differs from English has been quite valuable to know. I really had no idea. The majority of Latvian speakers I grew up around are mostly gone now, and they were native Latvian speakers, some of whom struggled with English and rarely even spoke it, except when absolutely necessary, even after years here. You have understood the difficulties unique to native English speakers, and you have understood the importance of having fun, colour and song in the course work. That really made it come alive!

You will not be disappointed by taking this course. Ilze is a wonderful teacher! She is passionate about teaching the language and it shows. She goes above and beyond to help her students acquire the necessary skills for learning the language, and she is always available to answer questions students may have. You will find her videos informative and helpful, her lessons well-structured, and her handouts invaluable. You will finish this course with a wealth of knowledge and resources to help you continue your Latvian language journey!

This course gives you all the basic understanding you would need to be able to navigate a visit to Latvia. It also gives you a head start on learning how to speak to Latvian people. Learning how to pronounce words, I think, is integral in for speaking in Latvian. Ilze is very helpful,  warmhearted  and kind in her help with the course. She also makes it fun with her rapping techniques! I am very pleased that I was in the right place at the right time to be able to take her course, I can't imagine learning Latvian from anyone else!
